The Pirates Claiming Miguel Andujar Is Pure Comedy
When the Yankees DFA’d Miguel Andujar, we just knew he was going to get claimed (as evidence by the link in the post). In case you missed it, over the weekend the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates claimed the former Yankees hot corner man. Time will tell how Andujar fares in Pittsburgh but at least he’s finally going to get some MLB at-bats so we get to find out.
That’s not the story. The story here is the fact that the Yankees refused to trade Andujar to the Pirates for Gerrit Cole. Instead, they came up short over and over again in the postseason. By the time it was time for Cole’s free agency, they tried to rectify the mistake by making another and overpaying him. Now that’s comedy.
Take it as a lesson for all the prospect hoarders out there. If he doesn’t make your 40-man roster, say bye-bye. Cash in the chips. Now you’re left empty-handed. It’s just a bad look. I understand getting burned on prospects stings but it is quite literally impossible for all of them to make your team regardless of how good or bad your farm system is. Cash the chips in. Understand what the 40-man roster is.
Does anybody feel bad for the Yankee fans? There were real humans that thought this guy was better than Rafael Devers! It’s just all around comical.
Want to hear something even funnier? In order to claim Andujar, the Pirates cut bait with Michael Chavis, a former first round pick of the Red Sox they acquired via trade. Now that’s comedy.
I just can’t get over the butterfly effect on this one. Imagine if Cole went straight to the Yankees instead of Houston? It’s a move that might have cost the Yankees a championship and the Pirates ended up with Andujar for free instead. Now that’s good. Too good.
