Acrisure Buying Steelers’ Stadium Naming Rights Won’t Be Worth It

Before the start of the 2022 NFL Season, we learned that Heinz Field would be no more. The actual building would still be where it has always been in Pittsburgh’s North Shore neighborhood, but the name stood to change. A company named Acrisure purchased the naming rights to the stadium in a new 15-year deal. According to some reports, the rights were bought for around $150 million. This is certainly a significant change for fans of both the Pittsburgh Panthers and Steelers. The stadium was called Heinz Field since it was built in 2001.

What is Acrisure?

Acrisure is a financial technology and insurance company based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Greg Williams, the company’s co-founder and CEO, is a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Acrisure has become the fastest-growing insurance broker in history and are looking to deepen their roots in the Pittsburgh community.

Will This Move Be Worth It for Acrisure?

The initial response to the name change was anything but positive. Fans railed against the news and longtime Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger echoed their sentiments:

It’s definitely a tough pill to swallow having the Pittsburgh-based Heinz brand replaced by an out-of-state insurance company. Heinz Field will always be the name of the stadium for many fans, regardless of what the official stadium name is (#ForeverHeinz). The blowback and negative perception of Acrisure that comes with this move might mean they won’t get their money’s worth, especially if most people still refer to it as Heinz Field.

Despite losing out on the naming rights to the stadium, Kraft Heinz did reach a verbal agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers to continue their storied partnership.
