Which tight ends bench pressed the most reps during the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine? (Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports)

The tight ends were the 2nd group to participate in the bench press drill. The offensive line started off the day with Miami’s Ereck Flowers benching for 37 reps. The all time record for a tight end was back in 2012 by Georgia’s Orson Charles. Charles has recently been converted to fullback duties using his strength for blocking purposes rather than catching. The results are below:

1. Gerald Christian (Louisville) 28

T-2. Jeff Heurman (Ohio State) 26

T-2. Jesse James (Penn State) 26

4. Nick O’Leary (Florida State) 21

T-5. E.J. Bibbs (Iowa State) 20

T-5. Nick Boyle (Delaware) 20

T-5. Clive Walford (Miami) 20

T-5. Randall Telfer (USC) 20

9. Eric Tomlinson (UTEP) 19

T-10 Tyler Kroft (Rutgers) 17

T-10 Maxx Williams (Minnesota) 17

T-10 Mycole Pruitt (Southern Illinois) 17

Miami’s Clive Walford is my number one rated tight end as of today. Most draft experts side with Minnesota’s Williams despite only catching 29 passes the entire season. Williams placing 10th out of 14 tight ends will likely hurt his draft stock.

Devin Funchess of Michigan has decided to work out with the receiver group. Funchess future likely features a role as a pass catching tight end but will work out with the receivers anyway. Funchess likely remains the only round one tight end in this years thin tight end class.
