Molly McCann Will Fight Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281
Molly McCann has been scheduled to fight Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281 on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden, as first announced by Blanchfield on Instagram. The fight will take place in the women’s flyweight division. At this point, it is unclear if the bout will take place on the main card or prelims.
McCann is currently on the best streak of her UFC career. In her last three fights, she has gone 3-0 with two spinning back elbow knockouts. She landed both of these spectacular knockouts in London, England, her home country. The trio of victories pushed McCann’s MMA record to 13-4 and her UFC record to 6-3. These performances have resulted in her entering the women’s flyweight rankings at the No. 15 spot. Now, she is looking to make a run in the division.
On the other hand, Blanchfield is one of the best prospects in the UFC women’s flyweight division. At just 23 years old, Blanchfield has accrued an MMA record of 9-1. Her only loss came to Tracy Cortez in her fourth professional fight back in 2019. In the UFC, Blanchfield has gone 3-0 with wins against JJ Aldrich, Sarah Alpar, and fellow prospect Miranda Maverick. This success has garnered Blanchfield the No. 13 position in the rankings.
This bout will determine which of these two talented fighters will climb closer to the top ten while the loser could light out of the rankings.
McCann vs Blanchfield is the second bout that has been confirmed for UFC 281. The first was a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira which will serve as the main event.
Now that McCann has a fight booked we will have to wait and see if the UFC elects to put her dynamic duo, Paddy Pimblett, on the card as well.
