Do Not Count Out Allen Robinson This Fantasy Season

When you look at the biggest busts in fantasy football last year, the name Allen Robinson is one that is frequently going to pop up. Robinson was drafted as the WR11 and expected to be a consistent option for fantasy managers. I drafted him in two leagues myself and thought he was a guy I wouldn’t have to worry about.

However, Robinson barely lived up to expectations, battling constant injuries and never clicking with Justin Fields — his biggest game would be 10.8 points vs the Steelers in Week 9. Robinson would eventually opt to leave the Bears in the offseason and sign a three-year, $46.5 million contract with the Rams. Now, people worry that Robinson isn’t the same receiver and might be starting to head on a downward spiral, but that simply isn’t the case.

After Bears turmoil, can Robinson return to former level of play?

So, the question would be, can Allen Robinson bounce back and become a great fantasy WR again? Well, the interesting thing is that Robinson’s down season may not even be a sign of him regressing. Earlier this year, Robinson went on Steve Smith Sr.’s podcast and talked about how now-former Chicago head coach Matt Nagy would miss meetings with him regarding his future with the team. Robinson also expressed concern about his lack of targets due to Nagy’s play calling and at times, it almost seemed as if the Bears coaches were sabotaging the 28-year-old’s plays on purpose.

The crazy part is, Robinson himself seems to agree.

In a tweet from NFL content creator Max Markham regarding Nagy and offensive coordinator Ryan Pace potentially sabotaging Allen Robinson, the WR replied with his decrease in targets over the years. And it even seems like former Bears WR Anthony Miller was thinking the same thing because he quote-tweeted Markham’s tweet saying, “Maybe I’m right.”

All this means is that we can potentially snag a top 12 WR talent in the league for very cheap and there’s too many people sleeping on him. It also doesn’t seem like the Rams want to sabotage Robinson because his contract is actually higher than the one he had on the Bears, meaning that they seem to be confident that last year was just a fluke. Los Angeles is also said to have big plans for him, as he’s supposed to be a difference maker in the red zone due to his contested catching ability. The team needs to fill the shoes of Robert Woods, who was traded to the Titans, and Odell Beckham Jr., who has yet to re-sign with the organization this offseason.

The real exciting part about Robinson though is his ADP (average draft position). Right now, he’s being drafted as the WR29, but both Robert Woods and OBJ finished as top 15 WRs within the weeks that they were starting on the team last season as the WR2 — and A-Rob is better than both of them in my opinion.

Prior to last year, A-Rob finished as a top 10 WR in PPR formats with Trubisky under center in consecutive years. He shouldn’t be disregarded by a single bad year that was filled with injuries and QB change. As I mentioned before, the down year may speak less volumes regarding his current talent, but rather the Bears’ coaching staff. Robinson has never had an elite QB in in his career but paired with Matthew Stafford who is said to already have good chemistry with him and one of the best offensive coaches in Sean McVay, he is going to be a STEAL this season.
