AEW President Tony Khan Takes Hilarious Dig at Vince McMahon Following WWE Retirement

Tony Khan, AEW President, and CEO took to Twitter to take a dig at Vince McMahon after the latter announced his retirement from WWE on Friday. Khan has been CEO and President of All Elite Wrestling since it started in 2019. AEW has been known to take some shots at WWE both over social media and during their shows.

While WWE does not even acknowledge AEW’s existence, AEW always finds a way to take a shot at them. Vince McMahon acknowledged AEW publicly for the first time in 2021. During an earnings call with WWE shareholders, McMahon stated he wasn’t concerned with the company’s potential new competition.

“I don’t consider [AEW] competition in the way I considered WCW back in the day,” McMahon said, referencing the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling. “Not even anywhere near close to that.”

Khan now claims to be the longest-tenured CEO in professional wrestling, which isn’t true since Billy Corgan has been CEO of NWA since 2017. Khan has been known to make comments like this while promoting his shows. Wrestling fans usually divide over the matter with half absolutely hating it and the other half loving it. It will be interesting to see how all of this unfolds and what the state of the professional wrestling world will be.

McMahon has been the center of the wrestling news world since the investigation for sexual misconduct allegations against him began earlier this year. These allegations totaled $12 million in hush money paid out to former WWE employees. While he stepped down from his CEO duties in June, he was still involved with WWE Creative. It has been reported now that he is officially retiring from all of his roles in the company.
