Cincinnati Bengals announce ‘White Bengal’ alternate helmet

The Cincinnati Bengals officially announced via social media that the team will have a “White Bengal” themed alternate helmet on Thursday, the cherry on top to match their all-white alternate uniforms.

While it has yet to be officially released or unveiled, below is what the “White Bengal” helmet could presumably look like — a white helmet with black stripes:

This previously violated league rules prior to this upcoming season. In 2018, the NFL amended its uniform policy to where it could wear alternate or “Color Rush” uniforms three times per season instead of two — but with one helmet. Now, we’re seeing even more relaxed NFL policy on uniform restrictions. Here are a few rules for the amended alternate helmet policy, per NFL.com:

  • Clubs must obtain an entire new set of alternate color helmets for all players
  • Alternate color helmets must be the same make, model and size as the applicable player’s primary helmet
  • Alternate color helmets must be made available to all players at the start of training camp and should be fit at the same time as the primary helmet
  • Alternate color helmets must be worn in practice at a minimum during the week leading up to the game in which they will be used

Unfortunately, this uniform combination won’t be used regularly on the road (or at home). I say “unfortunately” because, in my opinion, these are fire. They’re immaculate.

I’m not much of a uniform aficionado, so don’t dub me as such. My grading scale for uniforms is admittedly lax. I’m easy to sucker. That said, is this Bengal White combination in the running for the best alternate uniform in the NFL? I think so. For my subjective list, that includes the Titans/Oilers baby blue throwbacks, the Patriots’ alternate red unis and the Seahawks’ bright-green alternates (I have a soft spot for neon green; don’t judge).

The orange helmet still makes the Bengals’ white jerseys/pants pop off even more, but it’s somewhat boring because it’s the team’s normal helmet anyway. A new, originated white-and-black striped helmet adds aesthetic, at least for these pearly whites. I hope it’s the final product — I’m not sure what else they could go to. Maybe white with orange stripes? That doesn’t sound as appealing, in all honesty.

P.S. They might win all their games by 40+ point with these unis on. You can’t currently convince me otherwise.
