Jets Reject Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Offer

Ryan Fitzpatrick’s days in the gang green could really be over. The New York Daily News first reported that Fitzpatrick is willing to accept a one year deal worth $12 million fully guaranteed. Unfortunately, the Jets are not willing to agree to those terms.

The current Jets offer is for 3 years, worth $24 million that includes some incentives. This, of course, seems odd as most players are usually more inclined on taking a longer term deal as opposed to a one year pact. This deal has long been known to have been on the table since March.

The real problem with Fitzpatrick’s demands is the Jets only have $3 million in cap space available for 2016. A longer term deal would allow them to spread the money throughout the deal making a return very feasible. The harsh reality for Jets fans is you may have to watch Geno Smith as your opening starting quarterback. I anticipate the negotiations to pick up again once training camp gets underway. Since Fitzpatrick has known Chan Gailey’s playbook since his days in Buffalo there doesn’t appear to be any rush for getting him into camp early.
