I am a man of honor and integrity before all else. When the Celtics first traded for Derrick White, I was happy. I saw him as a good fit for the roster. A roster that just was missing a guy who was unselfish to chainlink the rest of the group. It turns out, Chickster was right. White is a damn hooper and deserves way more credit for turning the Celtics season around.
Everybody knows Chickster as the loud mouth at the company. We love Chickster but sometimes he’s better off keeping that mouth hole closed. He got this one right. Again, I said in my post at the time, I liked the White fit with Boston. I didn’t see THIS coming. White turned out to not just be a perfect fit, I think he also proved he’s a pretty damn good basketball player too.
We can play the stats game with White. That’s not really totally what it’s about with this guy. White, 27, averaged 11 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game on 40% shooting during the regular season with the Celtics. That doesn’t really tell the story. With Josh Richardson, Boston was a disaster. With White, the Celtics resembled a basketball team.
The guy is just a hooper. Don’t care what the stats say. Good things happen when he’s out there. White plays real defense. He’s totally unselfish. Always makes the right basketball play. Can handle the rock and distribute for others. Has no problem hitting open shots from deep or driving to the lane and scoring. White was a team USA guy for a reason.
The Boston Celtics had the best record in the NBA during the second half of the season (17-5 post All-Star). The only major piece on the roster that changed was White. He’s just a chain in the armor that will never let you down. White deserves his praise even after the Celtics lost the NBA Finals.
Kuddos to you, Chickster. This place wouldn’t be the same without you. I just wanted to credit this post to you because you were right and I’m writing despite the fact that I wasn’t really wrong in this situation. Now I just want to know if Chickster will do the same for blindly praising the Raiders’ draft mistakes during the Mike Mayock era? What’s fair is fair.
