Top 5 Trade Destinations For Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Karl-Anthony Towns has been getting roasted on social media over the past few days. From troll accounts to Minnesota Timberwolves fans to Ja Morant himself, Towns has been feeling the heat from everywhere. After Minnesota’s game two loss, I proposed the question of if the Wolves should trade KAT and build around Anthony Edwards. Let’s pretend for a minute they do decide to go down that route. What kind of packages could they get in return? Here are five that I have come up with.

Charlotte Hornets

Karl-Anthony Towns

The Hornets are a big away from going to the next level. I’ll pretty much have them in every trade article that involves a big. Karl-Anthony Towns goes to a similar situation from what he is in now, but sometimes a fresh start somewhere else can do good for the mental health of a player.

The trade also hinges on a sign and trade with Miles Bridges. Bridges is good and was in the argument for most improved this year. But he is demanding a lot of money this offseason. Bridges brings youth and athleticism, two things that are always good to have. Bringing Bridges in and signing him to such a deal feels like something the Wolves would do. It also doesn’t hurt getting a good prospect in Bouknight and two firsts.

New York Knicks

The Knicks will be in conversations for every potential trade target this offseason. The two of the first-rounders are for Towns, while the third is to take on Julius Randle. Cam has lots of promise and Thibs has shown he doesn’t really care for him.

KAT in the big city. Towns would bring a lot to this team, but the lights would be even brighter and so too would the scrutiny. He would have to grow up really fast if he wants to make it in that type of market.

Atlanta Hawks

Karl-Anthony Towns

Towns in Atlanta would add another dynamic level to this offense. I do not believe Towns can be the first option on a championship-winning team, but he would not have to worry about that playing alongside Trae Young. The Hawks have made the playoffs two years in a row but might need to do something drastic if they want to become real contenders.

The most compelling thing about Capela is his movable contract. He can play defense and rebound, but Minnesota could easily move off of him if things aren’t working out. Bogdanovic and the picks are the real prize of this trade.

Toronto Raptors

Yes, I know Siakam had a great game against Philly in game 4, but we have to take into account his entire body of work. This is not to say Siakam is bad, but he has been pretty disappointing at some points. Why not swap disappointing bigs with Minnesota? I’ll admit this probably isn’t my strongest trade package, but I stand by picking it for this list.

New Orleans Pelicans

Karl-Anthony Towns

Not going to lie, this is kind of scary. Zion Williamson is acting like he doesn’t want to be in New Orleans, yet the Pelicans are in the playoffs. They made a big trade for CJ McCollum and have the ability to go out and make another. Imagine a starting lineup of Jose Alverado, McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Zion, and Karl-Anthony Towns. Oh my.
