Dwayne Haskins dies at the age of 24 after being struck by a car, earlier today. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news. Schefter received the tragic information from Haskins’ agent Cedric Saunders.
The quarterback was in South Florida training with some of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates. Haskins was competing for the starting quarterback role after Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement earlier this year.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin made this statement about his passing.
Haskin’s was a stand-out at Ohio State. In his sophomore season for the Buckeyes, he threw for over 4,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Haskins holds the school records for total yards in a season, total yards in a game, and total passing yards in a game.
The Washinton Commanders selected Haskins with the 15th pick in the 2019 draft. Haskins showed promise for Washington, winning rookie of the week in week 12 of the 2019 season. However, a turbulent Washington front office parted ways with the young quarterback at the end of the 2020 season.
Haskins would go on to sign with the Steelers in 2021. Where he would be named the third-string quarterback.
