Bruce Arians Is Retiring From Coaching, Will Take Front Office Role
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians announced today that he will be retiring from coaching in the NFL. The news broke per Peter King. Arians will be taking a role in the Buccaneers’ front office, the position in question is Senior Football Consultant. Defensive Coordinator Todd Bowles has been named Head Coach to replace Arians.
Bruce Arians had been the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 2019, where he led the team to a 31-18 record, including a Super Bowl win in 2020. As mentioned above, Defensive Coordinator Todd Bowles will be stepping in as the full-time head coach of the Buccaneers, not on an interim basis. Bowles is a former head coach himself, having spent 4 years with the New York Jets from 2015-2018 where he went 24-40. Bowles has been regarded as one of the better defensive coordinators in football since joining the Buccaneers and had plenty of looks for head coaching positions.
This news of Bruce Arians retiring comes as a massive shock, especially after the news of Tom Brady coming out of retirement to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season. The Buccaneers were a heavy favorite to win the NFC South this year, and their odds to win the Super Bowl was +700, second-highest per DraftKings Sportsbook, behind the Buffalo Bills. However, the news for Todd Bowles is historic, as he becomes the fourth minority head coach in Buccaneers’ history, two more than any other team has ever had. We will be keeping a close eye to see how well Bowles does in the absence of Bruce Arians.
