Michael Gallup Signs Five-Year Deal With Dallas

Michael Gallup will be staying in Dallas. The wide receiver has signed a five-year deal worth $62.5 million, per Ian Rapoport.

This extension symbolizes a few things. First, it shows that the Cowboys are committed to Gallup moving forward. This was not a type of one-year prove it deal, this is a long-term deal that shows that Dallas is standing by Gallup as he recovers from his torn ACL (and he still caught that ball, think it was a touchdown. Absolutely bananas). Second, it shows a shift in how Dallas views their wide receiver room. The Cowboys traded away Amari Cooper for peanuts, which further displays their belief in not only Michael Gallup, but CeeDee Lamb as well. It might also be a reflection on just how bad Jerry Jones is at contracts, which leads to my third point.

Dallas needs to seriously reevaluate how they do business, specifically from a contractual stand point. Jerry Jones can draft some damn good players, but he absolutely sucks when it comes to contracts in both deciding who to extend and the money he gives them. The Zeke contract is still crippling this team, and I was against it from the start, although many people did not agree with me I have been proven right. I applaud Jerry Jones for being able to get out of the cooper contract, but he put himself in that position. They, for some inexplicable reason, cut La’el Collins and he was on an incredibly affordable deal! Dallas, at the very worst, is staying put while other teams are taking steps forward and it looks a lot more like Dallas is actively taking backwards steps themselves.

The Cowboys have had an interesting offseason, and it isn’t close to over yet.
