Micah Parsons was selected 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and I believe it is safe to say he has more than panned out so far. Parsons was selected as a unanimous Defensive Rookie of the Year this year at the NFL Awards ceremony and with good reason. Take a look at some of these stats:
Parsons helped anchor the Dallas defense this season, and according to him he really learned how to become a pro at the pass rush during training camp this year with his offensive line, specifically Tyron Smith and La’el Collins.
Full quote via PFT via NBCSports.com:
“They kind of took me under their wing, taught me, ‘This is what you’ve got to do to get better and better’ and I did it and got better,” Parsons said.
Micah Parsons says that Collins really helped mentor him in that speed could be used as an asset in him not just flying by tackles but also in setting up other pass rush moves because opposing linemen would be more concerned with his speed.
“LC was like, ‘You’re fast as hell but you’ve got to make them fear your speed, they’ve got to feel you, and then it’s like chess, that’s how you work your counters,’” Parsons said.
Micah Parsons is undoubtedly a special player, and he will have a spot on this Cowboys roster for many years to come. His blend of size, speed, pure tenacity, and desire to make a big play is a thing of beauty to watch. There were some questions about how high he was drafted coming out of Penn State this year, but I think based on his rookie season, those questions were answered and then some.
