Reshad Jones is coming off a pro bowl campaign in 2015. The problem the Dolphins are now facing is he is threatening on sitting out the entire 2016 season in hopes of getting a new deal.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Jones is considering sitting out the entire 2016 season if the Dolphins don’t rework his contract.

135 tackles, five interceptions, two sacks and two defensive touchdowns warranted his pro bowl trip last season. The odd part of this story is Jones is significantly well compensated already. Jones is the Dolphins 7th highest paid Dolphin and is scheduled to make $7.25 million this season and $7.1 million in 2017. When Jones first signed his deal he was the highest paid player at his position, now he is 7th.

With two years left on his deal it seems like Jones has little room for bargaining. According to Overthecap.com the Dolphins have about $17 million to work with if they do decide to rework his existing deal. At the end of the day with Jones already sitting out voluntary workouts it will only hurt his pockets if he continues to sit out.

The team’s only recourse is to fine Jones, a six-year veteran, if he skips the three-day mandatory minicamp that runs from June 14-16. And then Jones would be subject to a $10,000-per-day fine for training camp practices missed.
