Dave Portnoy Threatens to Sue Julia Black and Business Insider
In early November, Business Insider dropped a hit piece written by journalist Julia Black on Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy outlining sexual assault accusations by multiple women.
Portnoy knew this story was in the works and was going to drop, and rumors of another story dropping were coming. The time had come for the next hit piece, and Black reached out to Portnoy for comment within 24 hours of the scheduled release date. This is standard for hit pieces, where months and months worth of evidence and accusations are piled up with the target left with a short amount of time to respond.
Portnoy responded, not only to Black but to the public, posting an Emergency Press Conference defending himself and attempting to clear his name. His statement discusses the last hit piece, the evidence mounted against him and how he poked holes in all the witness’s claims against him. He did not sue Business Insider or author Black for slander, but that could change this time.
” The first time this happens I was caught off guard and didn’t send anything to Julia Black, and after the fact I was able to dig up the evidence to prove both the star witnesses were total frauds… It took me maybe two and a half hours to figure out these allegations are not true. This time we sent the evidence to Julia Black and knows what she is about to print is not true…”

The story was supposed to be published at 12:30 est on Thursday, January 20th, and with Portnoy getting out in front of the story publically, the story has yet to be published 24 hours after the scheduled release date.
