Adonai Mitchell Wanted To Play For Tennessee But Jeremy Pruitt Had No Interest
Adonai Mitchell is forever a hero catching maybe the most important touchdown in the history of the University of Georgia history. The Bulldogs are National Champs and Mitchell was part of that equation. As a freshman, Mitchell contributed right away and looks like a player with a bright future. A future it seems any program would love to have… except for Tennessee.
It turns out Mitchell wanted to play for the Vols. Jeremy Pruitt who was the head coach at the time had zero interest in bringing him to the program:
“According to VolQuest’s Austin Price, Mitchell filmed a commitment interview outside of Neyland Stadium (with Price). But the interview was never released because Tennessee didn’t accept Mitchell’s commitment. This all went down in 2020, which means Jeremy Pruitt was the Vols’ head coach at the time.
Mitchell, who is from Texas, moved to the Nashville area to play high school football. He was rated as a three-star wide receiver during the recruiting process (247Sports’ composite rankings had Mitchell ranked as the No. 10 player in Tennessee).
Georgia recognized Mitchell’s talent and offered him a scholarship. He signed with the Bulldogs during the early signing period in 2020 (a month before Pruitt was fired).”
Apparently, Pruitt didn’t want Mitchell because of the fact that he is a diabetic. Of course, that sort of thing used to be viewed in a much different light than when Adam Morrison failed in the NBA. Mark Andrews is tearing it up in the NFL and is a diabetic. It probably shouldn’t be a reason to not recruit someone to your school.
Obviously, Pruitt is gone now but he did more harm than good for the program. Pruitt is the reason Eric Gray, Ty Chandler, and Henry To’oto’o transferred away from the program. The good news is it appears Josh Heupel knows what he’s doing. Tennessee overachieved this year as Heupel looks to build up a once proud program.
For now, Georgia will continue to celebrate their National Title. Thanking a dysfunctional Vols program is now part of that process.
