Barstool Sports announced they have sponsored their first-ever professional athlete, a UFC fighter, Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett. The media company’s founder Dave Portnoy announced the deal on Twitter and hinted at how this is not a typical sponsorship.
“Paddy The Baddy [Pimblett] is joining the Barstool Family. We got a ton of shit planned for this guy”
“We have never sponsored a fighter or a singular pro-athelte before… I reach out and next thing you know, for the first time ever, we have an exclusive singular pro athelete sponsorship.”

Now, what Barstool and Portnoy have planned has not been made public, it was clear in the video that he was going to be an athlete AND a content creator so this is a new type of partnership. Aside from repping Barstool merch in press conferences or however else UFC fighters promote the brands, he can make training videos and other documentary-style shows to create content.
According to Vendetta’s Garrett Burroughs, Paddy is an up-and-coming superstar and will win a belt within three years of making his debut. Not only is he a great fighter with championship potential, but he is great during press conferences and any other pre-fight promotion which is great for selling pay-per-views.
This is also a great opportunity for Penn National Gaming to get more eyeballs in the UFC gambling world. The Barstool Sportsbook sponsored the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley fight so they are clearly trying to gain some of the combat fighting market shares.
Barstool has spent a lot of money hiring tons of content creators not only for the sportsbook but for just content for the media company’s sake as well and Paddy The Baddy falls into both categories here.
