Noah Fant Will Take A Step Back In 2021 Fantasy
The tight end position has become very unpredictable in fantasy. At the top, you have guys like Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, and George Kittle, who on any given day could be your highest scorer. Then it’s a really big drop-off where you are just hoping your tight end can get double-digit points that week. Noah Fant falls somewhere between, averaging 10 points a game in 2020. Although Fant increased his yards, receptions, and targets from his rookie season, I don’t see him taking a step to become an elite fantasy tight end.
Fant’s 2020 stats were ok while playing for a shitty Broncos team with even worse quarterback play. Fant went for 62 catches, 673 yards, and three touchdowns. Fant did have 93 targets which ranked second on the team only behind Jerry Jeudy.
The biggest obstacle for Fant is the quarterback play of the Broncos. Drew Lock is elite at being inconsistent and makes a lot of mistakes with the ball in his hands. Teddy Bridgewater will most likely be the backup, but if he gets to play, this offense might look worse than with Lock under center.
Another thing working against Fant is the number of offensive weapons this offense has. At the receiver position, they have guys like Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and K.J. Hamler. Sutton missed all of 2020, but when he was healthy in 2019, he had 72 receptions and over 1,000 yards. At running back, they already had veteran Melvin Gordon, but they also drafted Javonte Williams, who already looks to be Denver’s week one starter. Williams was very active in both the passing and rushing attack while he was at UNC. I expect him to have a similar role in Denver’s offense.
Noah Fant finished at the TE7 in 2020, but he only averaged 10 points a game with only five double-digit point weeks. He also only had one game over 80 yards, and the most receptions he had in one week were eight. With the return of Sutton and the addition of Williams, I think Fant’s numbers are going to decrease in 2021. Would I still draft Fant? Probably, but don’t expect him to put up elite numbers on a consistent basis. If you are going to draft Fant, you better make sure your other players are elite.
