With training camp nearing the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson are aggressively seeking a new contract for their franchise quarterback. With the two sides agreeing to end talks by the end of training camp the two sides are trying to get a deal reached. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk the Seahawks offered Wilson a contract worth $21 million annually, Wilson and his agent Mark Rodgers swiftly declined the offer.

The contract offer seams more than fair as it would make Wilson the 2nd highest paid player ever falling just short of Aaron Rodger’s deal worth $22 million per season. Wilson, 26, will be playing in the final season of his rookie deal which will pay him $1.5 million. Wilson would be smart to swap out his 1.5 million salary for $21 million but hey I’m not his agent. With the latest Seahawks proposal being declined it likely means no deal will be reached by the start of the season.

Wilson is in search to become the league’s highest paid player but he has almost no leverage as Seattle can keep placing the exclusive franchise tag on him which will leave him with no long term security. 21 million per season is more than fair when you consider the fact that he really isn’t in the same class as an Aaron Rodgers, it’s safe to say his defense may have earned a majority of his next pay day.

In 2014, Wilson threw for 3,475 yards, 20 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Wilson’s 20 touchdowns ranked him 16th in the NFL in passing touchdowns. Only time will tell if a deal can get done, but the more money Wilson asks for the more players Seattle will eventually have to let go.
