Trey Lance Is Off To A Productive Start In San Francisco

Trey Lance appears to be having a good start to life in San Francisco. All-Pro Tight End George Kittle raved about this year’s third overall pick during the first few days of the 49ers’ OTAs, saying Lance “looks better out there than a rookie quarterback.” Those are pretty encouraging words, especially coming from a player as dangerous as Kittle. Kittle also added that “When he’s out there, he’s slinging it.” The 49ers offense appears to be on the rise again after a down year. The Niners remain an elite defense, and if Lance is as good as they hope, they might make a return to the Super Bowl in short order.

Lance is not only talented but physically imposing as well, coming in at 6-foot-4 and 226 pounds. He may see game time in his rookie season as veteran Jimmy Garropolo has struggled with recent injuries, but despite questions surrounding the competition Lance faced at North Dakota State, it is clear that he is ready for the pros. Kittle’s comments may not sit well with Garropolo, but at the end of the day, the NFL is a talent-driven league, and Lance could beat out Garropolo for the starting job sooner rather than later if he continues to impress. The Niners made their intention to go all-in on Lance apparent when they selected him after giving up significant draft capital to move up to the third pick in the 2021 draft. They appear to have chosen correctly, however, and the Niners’ situation could improve even further if they pursue Julio Jones, for whom San Francisco is a potential landing spot. With two quarterbacks hoping to start in 2021, and the Wild Wild NFC West in full swing, the Niners’ season will be one of the most interesting to watch.
