The Indianapolis Colts have finally filled their massive hole at left tackle, they signed former Kansas City Chiefs left tackle, Eric Fisher, to a one-year deal worth $9.4 million, per Ian Rapoport. Carson Wentz gets some more protection behind an already dominant offensive line, and Indy is comfortable with Fisher’s rehab.
Ever since Anthony Castonzo retired, the left tackle position was a massive blemish on a young and dominant Colts offensive line. Now, Eric Fisher gives them a reliable veteran tackle to help keep Carson Wentz clean. The former number one overall pick has started 113 career games for the Chiefs. The 30-year-old tackle was released by Kansas City back in March and he is rehabbing a torn Achilles that was suffered in the AFC Conference Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. The Colts are clearly comfortable with Fisher’s rehab and have committed to him now after failing to secure a top tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The first overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Kansas City Chiefs, and in 2020 he caught a touchdown pass. Keeping Carson Wentz clean is clearly a priority for the Indianapolis Colts, they’ll likely be giving their 2022 first-round selection to the Eagles and at the very least the Eagles will receive a 2022 second-round pick. Anyone who watched an Eagles game in 2020 saw what happened to Wentz in 2020 when he faced pressure, the Colts are hoping to never see that again.
While we wait and see what the Colts will do in 2021, they have put themselves in prime position to win the AFC South and make a deep playoff run. The added protection with Eric Fisher is something that Carson Wentz will need.
