Oh, Jon
It would appear that Jon “Bones” Jones’ relationship with the UFC is once again in hot water.
After UFC 260, Dana White had this to say about Jones and a potential fight against new heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
In typical Jon Jones fashion, he took to twitter to express his frustrations in the aftermath of UFC 260. A series of tweets:
It has been no secret that Jones has been after the big money fights. Almost a year ago today, Jones teased a potential fight against Ngannou for his heavyweight debut and at the time it seemed the UFC was interested. Of course, this was until Jones went mental and popped off on both Dana White and the UFC brass about his pay for fights.
Career
Jon Jones, 33, has enjoyed quite a fair share of successes inside the UFC octagon. At 23, he became the youngest champion in UFC history, defeating Mauricio Rua to win the title. He holds many UFC records in the light heavyweight division, including the most title defenses, most wins, longest win streak, and most submission victories. Over the past few fights, however, he has shown that he is not invincible. A close decision win over Dominick Reyes and a fight against Thiago Santos where if his knees decide to abandon him, Santos would have won.
Time will tell if this relationship is on the mend or it is trending towards a breakup. It would be such a shame to see a talent like Jon Jones enter free agency, having made such a name for himself in the UFC. I feel like these two need to go to couples therapy and figure it out so we can all see Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones square off in what undoubtedly would be the biggest fight, pun intended, in UFC history.
