D’Wayne Eskridge is being criminally underrated in the 2021 NFL Draft. While the Western Michigan receiver has his shortcomings, he is more than capable of being a difference-maker for any offense at the next level.
A starter all four years at Western Michigan, Eskridge showed improvement every year. In his final season, he racked up 786-yards and 8 touchdowns. In that same season, he led all receivers in the country in yards after the catch per reception at 14.4. With the ball in his hands, he will either make you miss or blow right by you. While undersized at 5-foot-8, he comes with blazing speed. Anytime Eskridge touches the ball, he threatens to take it to the house.
Playing at Western Michigan, Eskridge was unable to go up against top talent and was regularly burning lesser competition in the MAC conference. Any questions regarding his competition level were put to rest at the Senior Bowl.
At Mobile, D’Wayne Eskridge showed out during one-on-one drills during the week. Winning on 7 of his 10 snaps, Eskridge racked up 3 touchdowns proving he can be a threat in the red zone as well. Against the top senior cornerbacks in the country, Eskridge displayed a combination of speed and separation that will make him an intriguing option come draft day.
At his pro day, D’Wayne Eskridge showed his speed yet again, running a 4.39 40-time. What’s even more notable is his 10-yard split of 1.50 meaning he gets to top speed quicker than anyone else. He has top-tier speed and acceleration allowing him to be a huge asset for any offense looking for a deep threat.
Questions pertain to his route-tree as he ran mostly slants, screens, and go routes at Western Michigan. However, his tremendous agility and change of direction mean he can surely develop as a route-runner in the NFL.
