The Charlotte Hornets announced on Sunday that rookie point guard, LaMelo Ball could be done for the remainder of this season. He had an MRI on Sunday that showed a small fracture in his wrist. He is currently seeking a second opinion but will be listed as out indefinitely. If further evaluation confirms a fracture, the rookie of the year frontrunner will likely miss the rest of the 2020-21 season.
Ball sustained the injury early in the Hornets matchup against the LA Clippers on Friday. He was clearly struggling but continued through the second half.
LaMelo Ball is currently averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.59 steals per game. Among top-ranked rookies, he’s first in assists and steals, second in scoring, and is tied for second in rebounds. He’s averaging .464% from the field and .426% from the 3-point zone. Since being drafted at No. 3, LaMelo Ball has established himself as the face of the team, making Charolotte quite the breakout story for the 2020-21 season.
He’s headed to New York this week to meet with Dr. Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgeries which specializes in hand injuries.
