Pete Carroll has built a winning culture in Seattle. Since becoming the Seahawks head coach in 2010, 2 of his defensive coordinators have left to become head coaches. A number of other assistants have also left for promotions including former linebacker coach Ken Norton who is now Oakland’s defensive coordinator. While replacing those assistants is often a difficult task, Carroll saw it in an entirely different perspective.
“Honestly to me, it’s a very positive thing,” Carroll said via seahawks.com. “When guys come to this program and we first talk about coming, I’ll tell them I’ll do everything I can to help them get wherever they want to go and do whatever they want to do with their careers. I mean that. When the opportunity comes up and our guys are getting some looks and stuff, I’m the first one cheerleading for them and working with them, in every way that I can. Whether it’s getting ready for interviews, getting ready for staff stuff, whatever they want. I’m not trying to tell them what to do, I’m just there available to help them because I want them to do well.”
This season opposing teams covet the likes of offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tom Cable, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and defensive coordinator Kris Richard. All 3 have chances at landing head coaching jobs this year. For now, Pete Carroll’s focus is winning their upcoming playoff game against the Lions. However, that doesn’t mean his top assistants won’t be interviewing for jobs elsewhere during this week.
