Pat Mcafee is done with ESPN after a company-wide memo was leaked by a friend prior to his daily show.

Pat McAfee opened a show segment quoting a ‘memo’ around the ESPN office. He tweeted the clip out on Friday afternoon talking to a regular on the show A.J. Hawk.

“There was no ESPN people on the show today AJ” – Pat McAfee

“Why is that?” – A.J. Hawk

“New mandate” – P.M.

This move can be looked at in a few different ways. There are media implications for all parties. ESPN employees were told specifically they were no longer able to appear on the extremely popular radio show.

This is a Win for McAfee

It means that they recognize McAfee is a threat to the old school traditional media giant. McAfee streams his radio show on YouTube and SiriusXM five days a week.

He will also no longer appearing on their platform’s anytime soon. They have worked together in the past, but he spent his own money working for ESPN and never got enough in return.

“I spent a million dollars traveling around the country working for that company, so I guess… Yeah, I guess I would not ever go on their thing again too”

Pat McAfee

McAfee has been breaking news, getting scoops, and breaking barriers. McAfee is huge on YouTube, and the ability to live stream for free has changed the game.

Bad for ESPN

Like it or not the pandemic has changed the media landscape for what I believe is a win for consumers. The industry adapted and proved that Zoom was an asset for getting interviews and expanding your “brand”

Guys like Rex Ryan, Dan Orlovski, and Mike Greenberg were guests all the time, and it helped grow their individual followings. ESPN is looking out for themselves, and not for their on-air talent.
