The New York Mets had a fake World Series celebration today at spring training and the video ended up on Twitter. Like most things that end up on the internet, people were shitting on them, calling them corny, and more.
The team was playing a game called 27 outs, if the team can record 27 straight putouts without an error, the team celebrates as if they won game 7 of the World Series.
People were clowning on the team, calling it desperate and saying that they will never win a World Series doing stupid drills like this. I don’t get it, it is spring training and the team was just having some fun while doing a drill.
Why do people get so butt hurt over the stupidest thing? I am sure more than half the teams in the league do some sort of drill like this, so why make fun of the Mets?
Expectations have not been this high for a Mets team in over a decade. I know they made the World Series in 2015, but the years after that have been filled with disappointment and failure after failure.
The Wilpon’s finally sold the majority stake in the team to Steve Cohen who has made it very clear his goal is to bring back a championship in the next three to five years.
The only thing I didn’t like about the video was someone screaming to make sure they all celebrated and told them not to be nervous. That was a little bit corny but who cares?
This team and the front office have made moves to become a legitimate World Series contender this year, they traded for Franciso Lindor, Carlos Carrasco and signed Taijuan Walker to complete their rotation. They got Trevor May as another quality arm in the bullpen, this team is ready to contend for it all.
TL//DR: The Mets fake World Series celebration was a fun spring training drill and if you didn’t like it go look in the mirror and re-evaluate your life.
