First Take Her Take – The New Show Is Taking Over Primetime

The recently debuted First Take Her Take took over the 5 ET Chiney and Golic Jr show on International Women’s Day. This feat marks the first time an all-women-led show aired during primetime. The cast features the trio of ESPN’s Charly Arnolt, Kimberley Martin, and Chiney Ogwumike.

Debuting in January, the show is a female-led spinoff of the popular First Take with hosts Molly Qerim, Max Kellerman, and Stephen A Smith. First Take Her Take, however, goes further than just sports, as the talented hosts go into their lives, culture, and experiences as a woman in the sports world.

Arnolt currently hosts select shows of First Take. After graduating the top of her class in journalism from American University, she worked her way up through WWE telecasts in Indianapolis. Martin began her career in ESPN a year ago as an NFL reporter, previously working for prestigious networks like Yahoo, Washington Post, Buffalo News, and Newsday. Ogwumike rounds out the cast as a current WNBA player and All-Star for the LA Sparks and was drafted first overall out of Stanford.

Kimberley Martin says, “This isn’t a ‘three chicks talking sports’ gimmick. I love that our backgrounds are so different, and so are our areas of expertise. As a black woman with years of experience as a sports beat writer, feature writer, and columnist, I’m thrilled to now have an opportunity to have conversations, share opinions and tell stories with smart, thoughtful women whom I respect.”

Since its debut, the show has gained popularity with the host’s unique takes and perspectives. This is to be expected given the accomplished, diverse group leading the show. Every sports show is male-dominated and constantly emphasizes the same opinions. First Take Her Take is what the sports world needs to get those fresh takes from different perspectives.
