Sloppy Cases: Carl Everett, Outspoken and Dangerous

Being outspoken isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s the reason why we have elected officials. Why we lean toward trends or cultural normalities. For outspokenness, there is a love/hate relationship for athletes who are vocal. For instance, Dodger pitcher Trevor Bauer is very active on Twitter with voicing his opinions regarding Commissioner Rob Manfred. The line however must be drawn when people on the center stage speak out upon things that make you look idiotic or prejudice. Carl Everett falls into this category.

Now, Everett as a player achieved more than many would hope for. In 14 seasons he slugged 202 home runs, appeared in two all-star games, and won a World Series in 2005 as a Chicago White Sock. He also received MVP votes in 1999 as a Houston Astro hitting .325 with 25 home runs and 108 runs batted in. Too bad his stats don’t speak for personality.

As a person, Everett is a different story. Since his playing days, he is open about his disbelief in dinosaurs. Yes, dinosaurs. He backs up his “evidence” with the fact that the bible states nothing about them alongside Adam and Eve. He also said at one point that the Apollo Moon Landings are fake and never occurred.

It doesn’t end there. Everett said once that he would retire if he shared the clubhouse with a gay baseball player. Adding to this, he doesn’t believe in people being gay.

Man, if only it were just the comments. Carl Everett also wasn’t much of a father. For example, his child was once found wandering Shea Stadium covered in bruises. This resulted in Everett being accused of displaying “inflicted excessive corporal punishment.”

In 2011, the arrest bug hit Carl hard. First, he faced arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in his own home after holding a handgun to his wife’s head. After that, the next offense came months later after assaulting a family member.

That’s all there is at the moment regarding Carl Everett. If it weren’t for the assault charges on him, he’d almost be in the same ballpark as Dennis Rodman. Nowadays, has a reputation more like Milton Bradley or Elijah Dukes. Hopefully, he gets the help he needs.
