The UConn women’s basketball team defeated DePaul yesterday, 100-67. With the win, the Huskies move to 9-0 in the Big East and 11-1 overall. They are currently ranked third in the AP Poll, but may drop a bit after an early-week loss to Arkansas. If there’s one thing to watch this UConn team for, it’s Paige Bueckers. The freshman is proving that she is the future of women’s basketball.

Against DePaul, Bueckers finished with 22 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. She went 8-15 from the field and 5-7 from three. Just watch some of these highlights from the game:

Paige Bueckers Is the Next Big Thing

Paige Bueckers is the real deal. Her incredible playmaking ability should be quite apparent from these highlights. That no-look pass at the end? Wow. Her court vision by itself makes her extremely fun to watch. On top of that, she’s a knockdown shooter with a smooth three-point jumper.

This isn’t an isolated performance either. Over the course of 12 games, Paige Bueckers has been fantastic. She is averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game. Those averages rank first, first, and second on the UConn team, respectively. The Hopkins High School product is also shooting 55.0% from the field, 54.8% from deep, and 81.3% from the free-throw line.

Here’s where I remind you that she’s a freshman, and she’s only going to get better. Women’s players must be 22 years old to be eligible for the WNBA Draft, so it looks like Bueckers is going to continue to dominate college basketball for the foreseeable future.

We’ve seen a glimpse of what the next generation of WNBA playmakers looks like with Sabrina Ionescu. Paige Bueckers looks like the catalyst of a new wave of do-it-all players in women’s basketball. She’s a walking highlight reel – get used to hearing her name.
