Nick Foles has been listed as day to day. Mitch Trubisky is week to week. The only remaining quarterback on the Bears’ active roster is Tyler Bray. However, the Bears have recently signed former Detriot Lions QB Kyle Sloter to the practice squad. But, he is not expected to see much action. To supplement the quarterback position the Chicago Bears are bringing in the Browns’ 2017 2nd round pick, DeShone Kizer, for a tryout.
The news was first broadcasted by ESPN insider Field Yates on Twitter.
In his rookie season, DeShone Kizer started 15 games for the Cleveland Browns. He lost all 15. Kizer only completed 53% of his passes for 2900 yards in 2017. He also threw for 11 touchdowns. However, he also threw 22 interceptions. Since then he has yet to make a start in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns would release him after the 2017 season. The Green Bay Packers would eventually pick him up as a backup for Aaron Rodgers. Kizer briefly replaced Rodgers in two games, including the season opener. However, he accomplished little. In those two games, he threw for no touchdowns and two interceptions. Including a pick-six by Khalil Mack.
After his short stint with the Packers in 2018 he was claimed off of waivers by the Raiders. However, they cut him prior to the season beginning.
Even if the Bears do sign Kizer they may not have to play him. Currently, the Bears are on their bye week and will not play the Packers until November 29th. It is possible that by that time either Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky is ready to suit up. However, nothing is certain. If all fails the Bears may have to turn to the former Packer, DeShone Kizer.
