Charli XCX: Substack Is Not Brat

Let’s get this out of the way before I begin… Yes, I am part of the Charli Angels. I’ve been a fan for a long time. I heard the Anthems song on FIFA 21 and I’ve been hooked ever since. I can’t begin to tell you how many articles on this site have been produced while blasting Charli XCX in the background. I’m writing this post because I care. I’m writing this post because I can help.

So I saw this yesterday, and I won’t lie, it ruined my day. Not because it affected me, but because I expected better.

Don’t mean any offense, Charli. Can’t begin to explain how many hours I’ve spent listening to your music while building my site.

Substack is not Brat, Charli, and deep down, you know it. I’ve shared my thoughts on Substack in the past, and totally stand by them.

Here’s the bottom line with all of this stuff, Charli:

Why would you ever allow someone to own your own space?

Why would you ever let a third party eat a chunk of your earnings when you have the financial resources to build something real?

Why would you settle for trash on your blog when deep down you would never do so with your music?

Confession Time: I Have A Huge Crush On Charli XCX

My line is open. We can build you something real. Feel free to use me or not, but nothing about Substack is Brat. I’m the closest thing the blogging industry has to Brat, and just remember, we are more than our thoughts. Whoever told you to start a Substack gave you horrible advice. It comes off as lazy and half-assed, and I never thought that would be the case with any type of art creation coming from Charli.

Again, I’m writing this because I care. Keep the blogs coming. Just don’t do it while getting conned at the same time. You’re allowed to own your own space in this industry. I promise you that.

Side note: I have a dance minor, so if you ever want to use me as a background dancer, my line remains open.
