The only thing Craig Breslow is really good at is finding new ways to avoid accountability. There was zero accountability with Rafael Devers, and now there’s zero accountability in terms of bringing young players into the Red Sox organization.
A report surfaced on how the Red Sox will handle the upcoming 2025 MLB Draft. The Red Sox no longer scout in person. All of the decisions will be made by data.
VIA The Athletic’s Keith Law, who mocked Tennessee infielder Gavin Kilen to Boston with the 15th overall pick: (don’t click the link, I’ll tell you everything you need to know, it’s locked behind a paywall).
“Given their de-emphasis on in-person scouting that seems likely to continue,” Law wrote. “Kilen scores particularly well by batted-ball data and swing decisions, two things the Red Sox value now.”
“The new baseball operations heads decided to pull a midnight massacre on their scouting group, notably the pro side, just as the system has recovered from a low point in the wake of the 2018 World Series win,” Law wrote in January. “Farm systems don’t get and stay good by accident, or magic. It takes people.”
So, yes, again… there is no accountability. If these picks bomb, blame the chart, not Breslow. That’s not a real leader. It’s also not anything that a five-year-old couldn’t do.
Did you read that quote carefully? Breslow sent a nuke in the scouting department and deemed them irrelevant. And you wonder why the turncoats are mounting?
I said everything I need to say in this video.
The Red Sox continue to have no culture, leadership, or forward-thinking ability. They don’t understand team-building either. Culture is a humanistic characteristic. You cannot win long term in any setting without those qualities. Take the keys away from the unaccountable children, or continue to suffer the consequences. It’s not arguable.
The job of a general manager is to be the best talent evaluator in the building. If the robot is the one doing the scouting, he should not be employed and it’s not arguable.
