The lack of leadership at the top of college football is totally shameful. This is my attempt at hoping someone with influence and power comes across this post and makes a change for the better. I still have no idea how the players are being paid while there’s zero collective bargaining agreement, but that’s the world we live in. College football has an Ajax problem, and I’m sure you have no idea WTF I’m talking about, so let me get to the point now.
A lot of the answers to fixing this sport already exist. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it 100 more times. European soccer already has the answers that college football needs. The Ajax problem? There’s a reason why Ajax is good in European football. If that same team was asked to compete in the college football landscape… they would suck.
I’ve already hinted at this before, but we need some sort of compensatory system for the transfer portal. This is how it works specifically for Ajax. They use money to buy the best teenagers in the world. Then the big boy clubs come calling and swipe their players. Except their forced to pay a heavy transfer fee to do so. That’s what keeps Ajax alive.
That’s not happening in college football. The lower tier teams? They develop the player and then get bombarded when they do something right. Don’t worry, they don’t get anything in return either.
We have to stop pretending all of these teams are playing the same sport. If some sort of system isn’t implemented soon, these schools are going to literally die. The schools outside of the Power 4 need their taste for doing right by developing players, the bigger schools steal away. Figure it out and make it happen. This shouldn’t be hard to understand.
