Rasmus Andersson appears to be a man of his word. The veteran right-shot defenseman only wants Vegas and is sticking to it.
Apparently, the Los Angeles Kings were on the verge of acquiring Andersson. That’s before he stepped in and told the Kings he would not sign an extension with them.
TSN’s Darren Dreger made an appearance on Edmonton Sports Talk Radio and had the following to say:
“I heard a whopper of the LA Kings going after Rasmus Andersson at the draft. And I can’t share exactly what the details were. It was a *deal*. It was Ken Holland stepping up to make a deal. And I don’t think Andersson wanted to play in LA, and he’s got trade protection. I get a strong sense that the LA Kings are swinging for the fence here.”
Andersson, 28, would make a ton of sense for Vegas. Given the Alex Pietrangelo news that emerged, Andersson would be a logical replacement on the right side. Also, let’s not forget that Noah Hanifin was his D partner in Calgary for a long time. Part of the appeal of wanting to go to Vegas could very well be wanting to be paired up with Hanifin again.
Currently, Andersson carries a $4.55 million AAV in what will be the final year of his contract. He carries a six-team no-trade list, but is playing this very wisely. If he only wants to sign with Vegas, the Flames have to obligue or they will get nothing when he signs with them in free agency a year from now.
How does 50% retained, Jeremy Lauzon, and a second round pick sound?
