Vendetta University began its 2020 college football season against the Virginia Tech Hokies. With the chips on the table late in the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Karl Heiser needed to rally his team to begin his college career with a game-winning drive.
Early in the game, there were some busted plays on defense. Missed tackles and missed opportunities for Vendetta University kept this game close. Junior kick returner Jacob Richison gave VU a 21-13 lead going into halftime with an 80-yard kick return touchdown.
Freshman quarterback Karl Heiser came under pressure for the majority of the game. Heiser was also called upon to make multiple big plays, and he delivered, finishing the game with 257 passing yards, two touchdowns, an interception (pick-six), and a rushing touchdown.
Senior wide receiver Jeremy Rinaldi was one of the only bright spots for the Vendetta offense. Rinaldi caught five passes for 217 yards and two receiving touchdowns, including an 80-yard catch in the first quarter. Junior tight end Chad Bauman got involved in the offense catching three passes for 40 yards on the day. Overall a solid day for the two upperclassmen.
Coach Law had this to say following the season opening win:
I’m proud of how we battled out there. Our O-Line had a lot of trouble handling Virginia Tech’s rush, but Karl was able to get outside the pocket and make a few plays with his legs. Jeremy made a couple big catches in traffic and was one of the few successes we had against VT’s backs. VT has a good team, and we made enough plays to win. In the end, that’s what matters.
