When Jrue Holiday was dumped to Portland the first time, the Celtics came and saved him. This time, the second apron came calling, and Holiday somehow found his way back to Portland.
Holiday was traded to the Blazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons, and the former is absolutely furious the Celtics dumped him back to the spot they originally got him from.
VIA Steve Bulpett at Heavy.com:
According to one source close to the situation, Holiday is “pissed” he’s going to Portland.
“Now, if he winds up staying there, I’m sure he’ll be the professional he’s always been and make a positive contribution,” said the source. “But he’s not happy with this deal. I’ll be surprised if Portland doesn’t move him on if they can, because right now he does not want to go there.
“I’m sure if he has to go to Portland, he’ll end up going and it’ll be OK, but right now they want to be somewhere else. But with that contract, it’s not going to be that easy.”
Holiday, 35, is set to earn $35.4 million this year and has two years remaining on his contract, which includes a player option for the final year. It’s an expensive ticket, but one anonymous scout has a theory. He thinks the price tag wasn’t even a factor. That Boston wants to lean in heavier to the 3-point strategy, and Simons allows them to do just that.
Added a scout, “When all they want to do is go iso and shoot 3s, that’s not Jrue. That’s not Jrue at all.”
