The Cleveland Browns have one of the most unorthodox QB rooms maybe ever. They have five quarterbacks on their depth chart right now. Deshaun Watson will not play next year, but is making about 46 million, and they have two rookie QBs in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. However, newly acquired Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson believes another quarterback on the roster will win the starting job.
Diontae Johnson has had a tumultuous season last year. He was arguably a top twenty wide receiver in his first five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He produced respectable numbers but was plagued by subpar offenses and quarterback play. Johnson took a dive last year without the Steelers playing for the Panthers, Ravens, and Houston in one season.
Now, the Veteran wide receiver is looking forward to a fresh start with the Browns. However, his quarterback problems have followed him as he has walked into a unique situation. I listened three of the quarterbacks earlier, but the two most likely starters are 17-year veteran Joe Flacco or recent back up QB Kenny Pickett.
Diontae Johnson gave his thoughts on who will be the starter when speaking on the Sports and Suits Podcast.
“I’ve been seeing Kenny going like right now with the ones. Then, Joe will come in,” ( –Diontae Johnson)
“I think they are probably going to roll with him just to see like he’s coming off a season with Philly and having a Super Bowl. So, I think they are going to stick with him through the preseason. Then, you know they can live with Joe and what he brings to the table.” (- Diontae Johnson)
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out for the Browns. Pickett was not super impressive as a starter in Pittsburgh, but maybe some time as a backup and new scenery is what he needed. Also, I’d be curious to see if either Gabriel or Sanders could take over at all before the end of the season.
Besides the QB situation, people will have to keep their eye on if Johnson can have a bounce-back season. Johnson and Jerry Jeudy are a very under-the-radar wide receiver duo that have a lot to prove. The Cleveland Browns are in a bit of a chaotic state this season, but their team is filled with a bunch of players looking for redemption.
