Dak Prescott suffers season-ending injury

The NFL season so far in 2020 has seen a fair share of injuries. Big-time players have gone down, such as Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, and more early in the season. However, the world may have seen the most gruesome injury this season, and that came from the Cowboys star player, Dak Prescott.

Prescott was enjoying an MVP season while averaging more than 400 passing yards for the past three games. Dak gave the Cowboys, whose defense is struggling, a chance to win in every game this year.

What does Prescott’s injury mean for the Cowboys?

There will be questions regarding whether or not Andy Dalton can win games, or can the defense turn their season around? Will Dallas continue to struggle and get a top-five pick in the next year’s draft?

The good thing about the Cowboys that they signed Andy Dalton in the offseason as their backup. He found some success with Cincinnati Bengals after the 2011 NFL draft, becoming the starter for nine seasons. Cincy cut Dalton at the start of the 2020 offseason. He is a three-time pro bowler and led the Bengals to five consecutive playoffs (2011-15). However, he never won a playoff game during that period.

Dalton now has plenty of offensive weapons, something he never truly had with the Bengals. (A.J. Green was his only “consistent” reciever) He has Zeke Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb. The offense can be strong.

This year was a contract year for Prescott and had preliminary negotiations with the team during the offseason. This injury could mean many things for the Cowboy’s future. Before the injury, Prescott was dominating. That that is the type of player you do not want to let walk in the offseason. There is a good chance that both sides come up with a long-term deal.

This injury is, of course, season-ending as he needs surgery tonight. This type of injury takes roughly 3-6 months to recover. If Prescott comes back in three months, it would be playoff time. The Cowboys may not take the risk of rushing him back on the field. It is Andy Dalton’s time to shine. That could give him a chance to showcase that he can still be a starter in the NFL.
