It’s not just Reilly Smith who is re-signing with the Golden Knights. Now add Brandon Saad to that list.
Jeff Marek has reported that Saad is returning to Vegas on a one-year deal in the $2 million range.
Saad, 32, got his contract terminated on a mutual agreement with the Blues, and latched on in Vegas pretty much right after it. When you consider the fact that Saad basically flushed money down the toilet to come to Vegas the first time, it’s not surprising he’s sticking around a little longer. He clearly enjoyed his stay. That much is certain.
The production speaks for itself. In 43 games for the Blues, Saad posted six goals, eight assists, and a -14 rating. Now compare that to what he did in Vegas. With the VGK, Saad notched six goals, 14 assists, and a +6 rating in 29 games.
The roster is starting to take shape here. Does that lock in that second line of Saad, Hertl, and Dorofeyev again? If Marner is on the way, the forward lines might be set. Barbashev and Eichel along with Marner. Third line of Smith, Karlsson, and Stone?
Again, the only thing we don’t know for sure is what’s going to happen with Alex Pietrangelo. Once that announcement is official, we’ll know for sure what’s happening next.
