2025 Vendetta MLB Power Rankings: June

Don’t look now, but the days are getting warmer and summer is right around the corner! We’re already two months into the 2025 MLB Season! Let’s hop into our power rankings this month, shall we?!

(Editor’s note: Tiebreakers are decided by best record followed by run differential. Stats and numbers are updated through June 5.)

30. Colorado Rockies

Last Month: 30

Average: 30

(Matt Hanifan 30, Jack Sabin 30)

Do I really need to waste your time here? Matt has already laid out how historically bad this team is and has the potential to be. Even if they don’t end up being quite that bad, I don’t see them being much better. Outside of Ezequiel Tovar, and Jordan Beck, there isn’t much to get excited about. The rotation is bad, the bullpen is bad, and the lineup is mediocre on a good day. Ownership has no idea what they’re doing, and until changes are made, the Rockies won’t be good. Not much else to add here. — Jack Sabin

29. Chicago White Sox

Last Month: 29

Average: 28.5

(Matt 28, Jack 29)

I had the Marlins lower than the White Sox because, well, they didn’t get swept by Colorado (have some shame, Miami). But the White Sox are still the worst team in the American League. They were pretty fortunate to split a series against Detroit–wait ‘till you see where they’re at–but they were winners of just four of their previous 16 games after a mini 4-1 stretch in mid-May. It’s a developmental season for Sean Smith, Miguel Vargas, Chase Meidroth and, now, Kyle Teel, the headliner from the Garrett Crochet trade over the winter.

28. Miami Marlins

Last Month: 28

Average: 28

(Matt 29, Jack 27)

Per usual, not a whole lot is going on with the Miami Marlins. Kyle Stowers is carrying this entire offense on his back with a .282 average and 10 homers with 33 RBIs. Even though it already seems like the Marlins are looking to send him off for a package that will likely involve guys who never see MLB action. Everyone wants to know what happened to Sandy Alcantara. Sure, he had a major injury, but to go from the best pitcher in the MLB to the worst qualified one in just three years makes no sense. I don’t care what the injury was, there has to be something else going on here. He may need a change of scenery, but who would want him at this point? This year, though, like many others for the Marlins, will be forgotten in history. Hopefully, they end up making some trades that net them some nice prospects. Other than that, I don’t see how this season could be a success for this Marlins team. — Sabin

27. Pittsburgh Pirates

Last Month: 27

Average: 27.5

(Matt 27, Jack 28)

I really do feel for Pirates fans. The screams for Bob Nutting to sell the team grow louder each day as he continues to give fans more reason to make such claims. Ownership has just refused to spend money, letting top talent go time after time because they don’t wanna shell out the big bucks. Take Paul Skenes, a generational pitching prospect who looks like he has the potential to be an all-time great if he can stay healthy. But already, the consensus around the league is that the Pirates should trade him for a historic haul since everyone knows they won’t pay him. Sad reality is that’s likely true, but even then, the Pirates will likely mess that up. The truth is, nothing will change here until we see a change in ownership. Until then, may god have mercy on Pirates fans. — Sabin

26. Baltimore Orioles

Last Month: 26

Average: 26

(Matt 26, Jack 26)

The Orioles have arguably been the most disappointing team in MLB this season. Look no further than the pitching staff, which has been an unmitigated disaster … and the underlying peripherals don’t expect much improvement in the near future. They are coming off sweeps against both the White Sox and Mariners, so it’s OK to give them some grace for now. But this team still is bad … at least Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg are either back or nearing returns?!

25. Athletics

Last Month: 13

Average: 25

(Matt 25, Jack 25)

Whew … what a fall off it’s been for the (Sacramento?) Athletics. They crushed Minnesota’s David Festa in their series finale. But in their previous 21 games? 1-20. The worst part about that is they still have the 6th-best OPS since the start of May. Don’t look at what their pitching staff’s done since then! (Spoiler: 6.92 ERA and 5.69 FIP … YIKES!!!) It’s not going well in Sac Town right now.

24. Los Angeles Angels

Last Month: 25

Average: 24

(Matt 24, Jack 24)

As a result of their series win against Boston this week, Los Angeles has climbed back to five games below .500 with Mike Trout tearing the cover off baseballs since his return. Over that six-game span, he’s sporting a 1.208 OPS, raising his OPS+ to 125 on the season. Zach Neto, who’s already crushed 10 home runs with eight stolen bases in 43 games, deserves plenty of love, too.

23. Toronto Blue Jays

Last Month: 21

Average: 23

(Matt 23, Jack 23)

I still am not completely sold on the Jays yet, even though they’re four games over .500 at the time of this publishing. They’ve been the third-best team in the AL East through two months, which is just as much of an indictment on how bad the division’s been (outside of New York) as it is them. However, the top of their rotation continues to pitch well and Addison Barger has been one of the better surprise stories over the last month. Bargar has a .912 OPS since the start of May, including a 1.205 OPS over his last 10.

22. Washington Nationals

Last Month: 24

Average: 21.5

(Matt 22, Jack 21)

The Nationals might be my favorite team in the MLB that isn’t the Phillies. It may sound weird as they are a division rival, but I just can’t help but LOVE what they’re doing over in the nation’s capital.

MacKenzie Gore seems to have taken that next step to becoming an ace, posting a 2.87 ERA with an absurd 12.9 K/9 across 75.1 innings. James Wood is a future superstar and will win at least one MVP in this league before it’s all said and done, and the talent doesn’t even stop there. Robert Hassell III was recently called up and is already making an impact. CJ Abrams has cemented himself as the shortstop of the future. At 29-33, though, this team is far from perfect and still a year or two away from really making some noise. They need another arm or two, and overall, they need to add more juice to this lineup. But I imagine those are needs that will be more addressed once this team is ready to compete. If the league isn’t careful, that could be sooner rather than later. — Sabin

21. Boston Red Sox

Last Month: 14

Average: 21

(Matt 20, Jack 22)

Roman Anthony, the No. 1 prospect in MLB, should be up already. At this point, what are we doing here? With Alex Bregman’s injury, you can make room so Anthony, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela can all co-exist. Boston’s currently lost an MLB-most 17 games by one run or fewer, which almost feels impossible two months into the season. It’s making the same mental mistakes it has for nearly a half-decade, but it’s still in the thick of the postseason. But keeping Anthony in Triple-A should no longer be an option–it shouldn’t have been one to begin with.

20. Texas Rangers

Last Month: 19

Average: 20.5

(Matt 21, Jack 20)

The Rangers, statistically, have arguably the sport’s best defense. But their offense has been one of the worst in MLB. Since May 1, the Rangers have the fourth-fewest runs scored, seventh-highest strikeout rate, second-lowest wRC+ and worst OPS across baseball. They recently got Corey Seager back from a nagging hamstring injury, but the lineup, collectively, needs to be better than it has.

19. Cincinnati Reds

Last Month: 16

Average: 18.5

(Matt 18, Jack 19)

The Reds haven’t been playing bad baseball, but in an NL Central that looks ultra competitive this year, the Reds just don’t seem like they have the talent to keep up. Elly De La Cruz is going to be a generational talent. The question now is if Cincinnati can and will actually build around him. The answer so far has been no, the thing is, they really aren’t that far away from being a competitive team. The rotation with Nick Lodolo, Hunter Greene and Nick Martinez is great; heck, Andrew Abbott has looked great through 53.2 innings. Chase Burns is also the 11th-best prospect in baseball waiting to make his debut. The issue once again has been the lineup, until they truly invest in bringing another couple bats in, this team sadly won’t be able to make much noise. — Sabin

18. Kansas City Royals

Last Month: 11

Average: 18.5

(Matt 19, Jack 18)

The Royals saw the writing on the wall. The American League is wide open, they were losing ground in the AL Central chase and their offense was one of the worst in MLB. Hello, Jac Caglianone!! Correlation doesn’t equal causation, but the Royals have scored at least five runs in each of his three games since his call-up after scoring five runs just five times over their previous 28.

17. Arizona Diamondbacks

Last Month: 12

Average: 17

(Matt 17, Jack 17)

It might be legit panic time for the Diamondbacks. At 31-31, things just don’t look like they are going to get better anytime soon. The main culprit has been the pitching across all levels. The rotation hasn’t been good, and that’s with Corbin Burnes finally getting it together and being the ace the team signed them to be. The bullpen, though, has been a big yikes. Justin Martinez is coming back from injury, but his absence showed just how shallow this bullpen is right now. The offense hasn’t been that bad with Corbin Carroll laying at an MVP level while Eugenio Suarez provides the power with 16 long balls. There is still time for Arizona to right this ship, but it needs to start happening very soon. — Sabin

16. Milwaukee Brewers

Last Month: 18

Average: 16

(Matt 16, Jack 16)

Don’t look now, folks, the Brewers are playing some good baseball. As I write this, they are in the midst of a 9-1 stretch. The offense is coming together with Jackson Chourio playing better as of late, while guys like Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins have done their jobs providing the power. Freddy Peralta and Chad Patrick have made for a great one-two punch, but when a 36-year-old Jose Quintana is currently your third-best option, some changes need to be made. — Sabin

15. Tampa Bay Rays

Last Month: 23

Average: 15

(Matt 15, Jack 15)

Winners of 12 of their last 15 games, the Rays are playing spectacular baseball right now. Over that span, they’ve led MLB in wRC+ and ERA with a top-5 FIP. Junior Caminero and Brandon Lowe have been scorching hot at the plate, while Drew Rasmussen, Ryan Pepiot and Taj Bradley have all punched above their weight on the mound. This is the first time the Rays are four games over .500 since 2023.

14. Atlanta Braves

Last Month: 17

Average: 13.5

(Matt 13, Jack 14)

This seems like an odd spot for a Braves team that is usually near the top, fighting to win the NL East. But this year just hasn’t been the Braves’ year, and at this point, I don’t know if they can turn it around. We all remember that bad start this Braves team had this year going 1-8 to start the year. They were able to turn that around, and it actually seemed like this Braves team was going to find some momentum. Even better was the news that both Ronald Acuna Jr and Spencer Strider would be coming back. Huge additions for a Braves team that was lacking firepower. Then what did we hear yesterday? AJ Smith Shawver gets diagnosed with a torn UCL and will likely need Tommy John. Just a huge blow for a Braves team that can’t seem to catch a break this year. — Sabin

13. Cleveland Guardians

Last Month: 10

Average: 13.5

(Matt 14, Jack 13)

Jose Ramirez’s 21-game hitting streak was snapped on May 30, but he’s recorded at least two hits in four of his five games since. Since the start of May, he’s slashing an absurd .390/.446/.636 with nine doubles, one triple and six home runs while also stealing 11 bags. The 32-year-old is currently on pace to hit 30 home runs with 45 stolen bases, which is pretty nuts, all things considered.

12. Seattle Mariners

Last Month: 9

Average: 11.5

(Matt 11, Jack 12)

Is Cal Raleigh on pace for one of the best offensive seasons ever for a catcher? He leads MLB in home runs (24; on-pace for 64) with the highest OPS (1.016) in the American League from players not named Aaron Judge. No catcher has recorded an OPS of 1.000 or better since Joe Mauer in 2009, while zero catchers have ever hit more than 48 home runs in a single season, let alone 60-plus. Raleigh is chasing as little as he ever has while pulling the ball in the air at a career rate–lending insanely good results.

11. Houston Astros

Last Month: 15

Average: 10.5

(Matt 10, Jack 11)

It took a little bit of time for Isaac Paredes to get comfortable. But he owns a .909 OPS with 10 home runs over his last 25 games, including a pair of homers in the Astros’ 8-2 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday. Houston’s quietly been a top-7 offense since the start of May, despite an inconsistent rotation that will be down Ronel Blanco for the remainder of the season.

10. Minnesota Twins

Last Month: 22

Average: 10.5

(Matt 12, Jack 9)

Minnesota buoyed into the top-10 in this month’s rankings as a result of a 13-game win streak in May. Two surprise names that emerged last month were Kody Clemens and Chris Paddack. Clemens was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies in late April and owns a 159 OPS+ in 29 games since his arrival to the Twin Cities. Paddack, meanwhile, has struggled to stay on the mound each of the last five seasons. Though he’s been one of Minnesota’s most reliable arms. He’s recorded three starts with at least seven innings and one earned run or fewer since the start of May.

9. St. Louis Cardinals

Last Month: 20

Average: 9

(Matt 8, Jack 10)

The NL Central looks like it could be a dogfight this year, partly due to the great play from the Cardinals as of late. The start of the season looked all too familiar for Cardinals fans. One that looked like it was going to end in mediocrity, failing to make the playoffs. Then they won nine straight games and have been playing good baseball since. Brendan Donovan has quietly been putting together a great season with a .314 average and an NL-most 18 doubles. Lars Nootbaar has been a nice bat as well, but overall, I feel this lineup could use a little more firepower. Maybe giving Ivan Herrera some more consistent playing time could help with that. — Sabin

8. San Francisco Giants

Last Month: 5

Average: 8.5

(Matt 9, Jack 8)

Do the Giants have what it takes to compete in this NL West? My money is on no, but I certainly have been wrong before. This team definitely has pieces, and you see that with the play of guys like Jung Hoo, Lee, Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman. Heliot Ramos has also been a solid addition to an offense that has lacked firepower over the years. In the rotation, Logan Webb continues to be great, with Robbie Ray following suit with a 2.44 ERA across 77.1 innings. The bullpen has been really good as well, yet despite all this, the Giants still haven’t been able to string wins together. They need a stronger/deeper rotation because I actually think they already have a lineup that can compete. Especially if Willy Adames can start getting it together. — Sabin

7. San Diego Padres

Last Month: 3

Average: 6.5

(Matt 6, Jack 7)

If streaky were a name, she would be the San Diego Padres. With both a six-game winning and a six-game losing streak in the early stages of this year.  The Padres seem like the epitome of an up-and-down team. The highs have been very high, with Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Jackson Merrill serving as the jolt this offense needs. While Michael King and Nick Pivetta are doing their best to hold down this rotation. This team desperately needs a catcher as well as another outfielder before they can start seeing more consistency. Adding another arm in the rotation and bullpen would maybe help with that. — Sabin

6. New York Mets

Last Month: 4

Average: 6

(Matt 7, Jack 5)

The Mets, or as I like to call them, the “what did Juan Soto do/not do today” since nobody seems to actually care about the team and instead focus on every pitch Juan Soto takes as a Met and critique it… Talking about you, Yankees fans. Get over it, he left. All that aside, it certainly hasn’t been the start Juan Soto wanted for his Mets career, but the thing is, the team is doing just fine. We seem to forget that Francisco Lindor was terrible in his first year as a Met and was punching teammates in the clubhouse. Now he’s a hero within the city for his postseason contributions. Pete Alonso and Lindor have been doing enough to carry this offense so far, but in all honesty, they don’t have to ever do too much. This starting rotation has been amazing for New York, with all three of their starters posting ERAs under 3. The battle for the NL East is gonna be an epic one, can’t wait to see it all shape out. — Sabin

5. Chicago Cubs

Last Month: 7

Average: 5.5

(Matt 5, Jack 6)

The Cubs are playing some hot baseball right now and I don’t think any pitcher wants to face that lineup right now. Kyle Tucker has looked like one of the best free agent signings this offseason to the tune of a .283 average with 12 HR’s. But by far the biggest story has been the play of Pete Crow-Armstrong. I mean, 15 home runs with 50 RBIs while playing elite defense in center field, that’s a future MVP if I’ve ever seen one. Add in guys like Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly and it’s clear to see why this lineup is so dangerous. The rotation could use the return of Shota Imanga and likely another arm before the deadline. They do that, and this Cubs team can be scary. — Sabin

4. New York Yankees

Last Month: 8

Average: 4

(Matt 4, Jack 4)

You have to give credit where it’s due: Despite Gerrit Cole and Giancarlo Stanton’s absences to begin the season, the fact that New York’s clearly been a top-2 team in the American League deserves credit. Aaron Judge is on pace for a historically great season, and even outside of him, the Yankees have arguably the best offense in the AL. Max Fried and Carlos Rodon are also both in the mix for AL Cy Young, which is huge for this team’s ceiling.

3. Philadelphia Phillies

Last Month: 6

Average: 2

(Matt 3, Jack 1)

Ahh, yes, nice to see my Phillies near the top of this list again, especially after a lackluster start had fans wondering if the window was officially closed. The name of the game for the Phillies has been starting pitching. If you look around the MLB, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better starting rotation. Zack Wheeler and Christopher Sanchez have been as advertised so far, while the addition of Jesus Luzardo has looked like an absolute steal, with him pitching at a Cy Young level outside of his last two starts. Even Mick Abel came up for his one start and tossed six scoreless innings. Ohh, and top-5 prospect Andrew Painter is still waiting to make his debut. Ironically, though, this team’s biggest weakness has been the bullpen. Essentially after losing Jose Alverado for the season, it’s clear the Phillies will need to make a move or two to sure up this bullpen before the playoffs come around. — Sabin

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

Last Month: 1

Average: 2

(Matt 1, Jack 3)

No surprise the Dodgers find themselves near the top of this list and atop the NL West. With arguably the best roster in the MLB, they are still the favorites for many to win the World Series. I could go on about the talent they possess, but you already know all that. Shohei Ohtani is also throwing bullpens again and could be back pitching late this year. Even if it’s only out of the bullpen, getting him back as an arm would be invaluable for this team. The only thing holding this team back is potential injuries. But even then, this team is very deep and will likely look to bolster up ahead of the trade deadline. The rotation hasn’t been as dominant as years past, but if a guy like Roki Sasaki can start to figure it out, this rotation once again becomes dangerous. — Sabin

1. Detroit Tigers

Last Month: 2

Average: 2

(Matt 2, Jack 2)

The Detroit Tigers? The Detroit Tigers! They climb atop this month’s power rankings by virtue of having the best record in MLB. They were 19-9 in the month of May with arguably MLB’s best arm in Tarik Skubal, who undressed the Cleveland Guardians in a “Maddux,” on May 25. Spencer Torkelson, Riley Greene and Kerry Bond–…I mean Kerry Carpenter all have good cases to be All-Stars this summer as well. This group has played nearly flawless baseball in every way (outside of its most recent series), so hats off to them!
