The Jaguars might not be totally ready to give up on Travis Etienne yet, but the Liam Coen era had no problem flushing last year’s 5th round pick down the toilet. Keilan Robinson, selected just last year, has been placed on waivers and will be released by the club.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news:
Robinson, 25, was a gadget guy at Texas and never really found much of an opportunity as a rookie. He appeared in six games last season, but most of that came via special teams. He returned two kicks for 34 yards. That’s pretty much the end of the list right there.
This move makes sense. The Jaguars already have four backs on the roster that they pretty much have to carry. They spent two draft picks on Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen. They also have Etienne and Tank Bigsby on the roster. There’s just not enough roster spots on the team to carry a guy like Keilan. Again, a guy who really couldn’t carve out a role in college either.
If you’re curious, I do have a write-up about Keilan Robinson from the last draft cycle. If you want to check out his profile, you can do so right here! Maybe he gets picked up by another team, but that’s no guarantee. It’s hard to carve out too many roster spots for flawed speed players like this who aren’t really much of anything beyond specialist returner options.
