Liam Coen Refutes The Travis Etienne Trade Rumors

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler claims Liam Coen and the new Jaguars regime aren’t high on Travis Etienne. Pretty believable, all things considered, based on the fact that Etienne isn’t really any good and should have never been picked in the first round.

This could be one of those “what else is he going to say” moments, but Coen did his best to deny any and all trade rumors surrounding Etienne.

“He’s done a great job. I don’t really understand some of the stuff I’ve seen out there,” Coen said, per the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union’s Demetrius Harvey. “That’s absolutely inaccurate.”

“Everything we’ve asked him to do, he’s done at a good clip for us,” Coen said. “I mean, the ability in the screen game, to hand him jet sweeps. His vision, so far, in the run game has been good. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, and more. There’s been a consistency.”

Etienne, 26, rushed for 558 yards and two touchdowns last season. Tank Bigsby has pretty much taken over the lead back role, and Etienne has shifted into the change of pace/ receiving back guy. That’s also the exact role that Bhayshul Tuten was drafted to be. Oh, and don’t forget about LeQuint Allen, who also plays in that same sort of style.

I could be totally off base here, but this is my guess. Etienne will play the 2025 NFL Season on the 5th-year option that will pay him $6.143 million. If someone makes them an offer they can’t say no to in order to replenish draft capital, they gave up to move up for Travis Hunter, they will dump Etienne. If not, he will play out this year and likely won’t be re-signed, paving the way for the new guys to contribute.
