Karl-Anthony Towns Called A Loser By WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti
Karl-Anthony Towns Called A Loser By WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti
Knicks fans are already fed up with Karl-Anthony Towns; some, like WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti, have called him a loser. Why are the passionate fans of the New York Knicks already turning on KAT? Well, first, they probably watched the games and could see it was not KAT’s best series, but also, The Athletic revealed a report about the Knicks, and it was brutally honest.
“Publicly, Knicks players made veiled comments all season about poor communication causing their inconsistencies. Behind the scenes, they and coaches expressed frustration with Towns’ defensive habits — less concerned with his talent level and more with his process on that end. Too often, Towns executed incorrect coverages without communicating why he did it. After it became a theme, players worried Towns didn’t grasp the importance of the matter.”
WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti absolutely torched him on Boomer & Gio Monday morning, quote provided by Awful Announcing:
“The biggest issue the Knicks have going forward to get to the next level is the fact that they waited and waited and waited to go all-in on a couple of guys, and the biggest one being Karl-Anthony Towns,” Giannotti said on the Monday show. “And they went and they traded for him, and he’s making $50 million a year. And at the core, he’s a loser. That is their biggest problem. The guy is a loser. He’s a losing player. He complains. He’s soft.
“He shows you flashes where he’s the best player on the court. Not enough. He doesn’t play defense. He b*tches and moans. He is, up until this point in his career, a loser, who is making $50 million, who is going to be a logjam as far as them trying to get to the next level… He is getting the point, now, as one of the most frustrating players I have ever watched in the uniform of a team that I root for because I know how good he can be. And it’s just so damn annoying watching him not realize his full potential.”
The way Gregg Giannotti or “Gio” is talking, I recognize that talk, that is a heartbroken fan. However, I can’t say I see a single lie in his rant. Karl-Anthony Towns might be a loser, remember when Jimmy Butler had that iconic scrimmages at the Minnesota Timberwolves practice and he kept going at KAT? It only makes it more and more true as time goes on. There were times that KAT seemed unplayable if he wasn’t scoring. Mitchell Robinson sometimes felt unplayable because of his inability to score, the Knicks had a catch 22.
The first year of the Knicks and KAT trade has to be a success. Reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, a feat that Joel Embiid has yet to do, cannot be a failure. The Knicks fanbase is passionate and demands the world, however, as a non-Knicks fan, this has been successful for New York. They recognize the problem, no not Karl-Anthony Towns himself, but defense itself with KAT being a part of the problem. The Knicks will have to buy in defensively as a team, like the OKC Thunder. Maybe, just maybe, we can see those passionate Knicks fans and the Knicks in the NBA Finals, maybe even winning?
What do you think? Was Gregg Giannotti or Gio being too harsh on Karl-Anthony Towns? Not harsh enough? Let us know in the comments.
