Tom Aspinall Claims Jon Jones Is Retired

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is no longer calling for a fight against undisputed heavyweight champion Jon Jones. He has claimed that Jones is retired and wants to start his reign as the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Aspinall spoke about Jones’ potential retirement in an interview with Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier on Good Guy / Bad Guy.

“Jon Jones is retired,” Aspinall said. “I want to say God bless him moving forward in what he does with his life and career. We move on. I’m the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I’m ready to take on all comers and get this division moving again.

It has to be noted that Aspinall may be poking fun at Jones. In his quest to fight Jones for the undisputed title, he has taken time to troll and attempt to turn the wait into fun. It certainly has fans on the edge as he continues to tease fight news and claim Jones is retired.

A potential matchup between Aspinall and Jones is one of the biggest fights that can be booked at the moment. UFC CEO Dana White stated it would be the biggest fight in the history of the heavyweight division. It would be a travesty if the fight never materialized.

Aspinall’s priority is to kickstart the heavyweight division. The other remaining heavyweights near the top of the division are currently inactive. Meanwhile, he wants to get active and fight every contender on the board.

“The other guys don’t want to fight anybody because they might be next themselves,” Aspinall said. “Everybody else is scared to fight. Nobody wants to make the next move. The division is completely stuck. I am sick of the division being stuck. I’m there. I’m active. I’m getting better all the time. Just stick me in. I’m ready to fight all of them.”

Regardless of who Aspinall fights next, fans are clamoring to see him back in action. The question is whether that will be against Jones or another heavyweight. Hopefully, that announcement will come soon.
