Tom Brady-Backed Autograph Sports App to Shut Down
After just 18 months in operation, the Autograph: Sports Fandom app co-founded by Tom Brady will be shutting down on Thursday, May 29th. An announcement was posted for users of the app that read as follows:
“First and foremost, we want to thank all of the fans for the support of our platform and mission to reward the world’s fans. After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue operating the Autograph: Sports Fandom app on Thursday, May 29th.
Thank you to all of the fans that have made this platform an amazing place to share, engage, and cheer. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know so many of you over the last 18 months and, on behalf of our entire team, thank you for your incredible support, feedback, and enthusiasm that helped shape the platform and the community into what it is today. Fan on – and thank you.”
The Autograph Experience
As a former user of Autograph, it never felt like the app knew what it wanted to be. It started as an aggregator for your favorite team’s news and podcasts. There was a points system that rewarded you for reading articles, and you could exchange points for raffle entries to win memorabilia and other prizes. They added a ticket marketplace. They added a group chat tab. Now, there’s a daily picks function. All the while, they would send you AI-generated news recap emails rife with factual and grammatical errors.
Autograph tried to be everything a sports fan could want. Unfortunately, they did so by adding features that, frankly, were done better by a host of other apps. Now, Autograph is shutting down after less than two years.
