Greg Cronin is out, Joel Quenneville is in. The legendary coach with the Blackhawks finally is back in the league years after the whole Kyle Beach incident. Of course, Quenneville wasn’t the abuser in that situation, but was rightfully suspended for not doing the right thing and reporting it. Quenneville has paid his dues and now will be tasked with getting the young Ducks back on track.
The Ducks put out a press release on the news where general manager Pat Verbeek and Quenneville gave brief statements.
“Today is a great day for the Anaheim Ducks,” said General Manager Pat Verbeek. “Joel is a proven winner and one of the top coaches in NHL history. We believe this is a major step forward in our process of being a perennial playoff contender.
“I’m excited to join the Anaheim Ducks,” said Quenneville. “This is the organization I wanted to restart my career with and am truly grateful for this opportunity. The Ducks have incredible ownership, management and passionate fans. In nearly four years away from the game, I have learned from my prior mistakes and realized it will be actions over words that demonstrate my commitment to being a better leader.”
Quenneville, 66, won three Stanley Cup championships with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013, and 2015. The resume sort of speaks for itself. It’s now a matter of time to see whether he can get the Ducks back to actually competing again. They have some young pieces that do have some future promise.
