I just did the profile on Mason Graham, so we’re doing Kenneth Grant next. I think you understand the concept that Michigan had a better team with Jim Harbaugh, so let’s move past the part where watching him from 2023 is probably the important part thing. Beyond that, let’s hit the Michigan defensive tackle next on the 2025 NFL Draft profile and keep this puppy moving.
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 2
Grant, 21, was a four star recruit out of the state of Indiana. The 6-foot-4, 331, defensive tackle played right away as a freshman but really made a name for himself the next two years. In 2023, Grant was Second-team All-Big Ten Conference making just five starts. This past year, he was Third-team Associated Press All-American and Second-team All-Big Ten. Kris Jenkins’ not being there opened a starting job.
Grant has 6.5 sacks over the last two years. It’s just more of a fact that sometimes the guy looks like a wrecking ball and other times like a turd who is just taking up space. He doesn’t have the motor that Graham does, and playing with him probably helped in more ways than one. Nobody wants to talk about that but I doubt Grant is as effective without Graham. If you want to look for their best moment from this past year, just watch the Ohio State game.
No Combine for Grant either. 22 bench press reps is cool, but it’s not really that impressive given how big he is. Over 33 inch arms works. He uses his hands pretty well in general. You’re just not getting a guy who is super twitched up in terms of lightning rod first step stuff. 23 QB hurries and 5 pass deflections give you kind of an idea of who he is. Not super strong but has some crafty hand fighting and can be something when he’s on.
Look, I don’t hate Grant. I don’t think he’s a bust like Mazi Smith. He just looks like a better version of Terdell Sands to me. More of athlete than Sands was, but either way, not a first round type of guy for me. I’d love to have him in the third round around the spot Baltimore got Travis Jones, but I know someone will go higher than that.
