I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. This running back class is so loaded heading into the 2025 NFL Draft that a lot of these guys are going to be overlooked. Demie Sumo-Karngbaye takes that statement one step further. Even people who follow the NFL Draft may not even know who this is. That’s ok because the Kentucky back is a worthwhile one to discuss.

Sumo-Karngbaye, listed at 6-foot, 210 (no Combine invite so we don’t know how accurate those numbers are) was a three star prospect out of the state of New Jersey during the 2021 cycle. I actually did mention him twice in the stock notes (Week 2 / Week 5). Yes, we watch Kentucky football over here so feel free to peep those links out.

The path for Sumo-Karngbaye looks like this. Two years at NC State but his freshman year was a redshirt. He only had 55 carries before moving on to Kentucky for his final two years. His first year at Kentucky, he only notched 20 carries but flashed in limited action. The 2024 part of the equation is probably the only relevant part of this worth actually talking about.

Sumo-Karngbaye rushed for 586 yards on 129 attempts (4.5 YPC) and five scores. Add in 20 receptions for 154 yards and that about wraps it up.

Good news… he was ahead of Chip Trayanum, who wasn’t a zero and transferred in from Ohio State to win those reps. The bad news… freshman Jamarion Wilcox already proved he was the better player at a much younger age. That should help you tier things in your mind if you’re familiar with those players on where Sumo-Karngbaye stands.

I have an undrafted grade on Demie Sumo-Karngbaye but I actually don’t think he’s a total waste of time. Has an overachiever / gritty energy to his game. Can kinda catch and be functional as a runner. I don’t hate the idea of a preseason invite for him.
